After years of promises, and lots of hard work we are pleased to announce the very beginnings of the SPAAMFAA Archives getting online.
The Archives consists and enormous amount of material — more than 120 feet shelving with files, and thousands of photographs, books, and fire service periodicals. We the Archives Committee have been working hard organizing the collection, and trying to determine the best way to share it online with you (the SPAAMFAA Membership). To that end we are experimenting with a SmugMug online photo-sharing account. This will allow us a place to start posting scanned/digitized photos and documents.
Our SmugMug account is very much a “work in progress.” We are still setting up policies and procedures. We are trying to determines what gets scanned first (photos, owners manuals), and what the procedure will be to do the scanning and uploading. Once photos and documents are scanned and uploaded, we are also working on ideas for how will these images and documents be organized and sorted (and searched).
SmugMug is a powerful photo-sharing website, and we’re eager to start exploring how best to make it work for our needs. In the meantime – we invite you to visit and explore some of the different sections – folders – ideas we have for content that the site might host.
As always comment and feedback are important to us. Let us know your thoughts, and we’ll do our best to incorporate them as we continue to grow and develop this next-step in serving you – the membership.
